Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell on Saturday.

The England team reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the tour at the SCG gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has already lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of England players to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he sent down a slower ball to Travis Head and immediately felt at his leg.

Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test having missed the previous Test.
