Followers Urge Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who jumped a fence and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account includes recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more message on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals requested online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of fans had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual adaptation of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unexpected relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, earning several for best costume and set decoration.
