Shock as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the 40-year-old presenter was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive behind the incident is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, according to authorities.
Details of the Attack
Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a premises close to the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the property overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.
"The report indicates the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.
Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the crime scene.

Police have appealed members of the public who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to establish their destination," stated a police chief.
