Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
