The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:
- Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
