The star has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

The star was given the cheque on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots had in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

These funds helped locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges caused by flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in improving infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The idea that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has commented.

He is among several artists to contribute his award winnings to good deeds.

When Pulp received the trophy in the year 1996 for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would contribute their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, artist she shared her bounty between several organizations, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that supported their act, alongside other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients the group gave their award to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked artist Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success impacted another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved two grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were bought under the public acquisition program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
