The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and fan theories regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
